Bach Flower Essences

"Each of us is on a unique and unrepeatable journey through life,
and our state of health at any time serves as an indicator of the
point we have reached on this journey." Mechthild Scheffer

The Bach Flower Remedies were introduced to the world by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. Dr. Bach, a bacteriologist and homeopathic physician, desired a simple more natural method of healing that did not 'require anything to be destroyed or altered'.

In the metaphysical sense, health and mood states are the results of harmony or disharmony in the soul. In the spiritual sense, balance is the antidote. The Bach Flower Essences and Remedies are about harmony and subtle balance. There can be no overdose and no effect on the body per se. The Bach Flowers do no harm even if the evaluation of a condition and use of a remedy is not entirely accurate. Similar to Reiki, (where the recipient may either accept or reject energy), the Higher Self recognizes and will not admit the unnecessary into our energy system.

Bach Flower Remedies for animals of all shapes and sizes have been used since almost the beginning. It is obvious to anyone 'owned' by an animal that animals, like humans, are greater than the sum of their parts! Animals are intelligent beings with the ability to feel. Each has its own character and way of presenting itself to the world. The 38 Bach Remedies were divided into seven related groups. They were: Fear, Uncertainty, Insufficient Interest (in present circumstances), Loneliness, Oversensitivity (to influence and ideas), Despondency (or despair), and Overcare (for the welfare of others). Those were the original basis of Dr. Bach's work. Later, the emotional states were expanded to the 38 we know today. The basic seven are but a doorway to guide to the more specific and subtle uses of the Bach Remedies.

Some Remedies apply to personality ~ those traits which make individuals and animals who they are. Others describe moods or emotions common to all. All of the Remedies address states of Being which any person or animal might experience going through life. We need to identify the state or mood which presents the current problem(s). For instance, an animal who fears sudden loud noises is experiencing a mood of the moment ~ a passing state ~ so a Bach Flower Remedy to overcome negativity and regain the positive quickly would be chosen. But if, like my cat biscuit, the problems are deep in the psyche, then a Remedy or combination of Remedies which address both the outer mood AND the 'personality' must be chosen and combined with care.

'biscuit' is short for pssst kitty which is what she was called until she had a name of her own. She was a deeply traumatized young cat with intense fear of anything new or of being handled or even touched, though her need for attention was clear. She is now 16 years old. She takes Bach Remedies from a stock bottle. Her Remedies are Aspen (for fear of the unknown, apprehension, and nervousness); Mimulus (for fear of known things, shyness, and timidity); and Star of Bethlehem (for all forms of mental, emotional, physical shock and longstanding trauma and calmness). She is a wonderfull cat and responds well to the 3:3:2 dosage from a stock bottle once a day in her food.

There are 38 Bach Flower Remedies, and there are lists and charts available on the net. Bach himself intended that the Remedies be available for individual and home use without medical or psychiatric degrees.
